Argyle Diamonds

Project: Argyle Diamond Mine Hydrometric Monitoring Network
Client: Argyle Diamonds (Rio Tinto)
Region: Kimberley, WA

Project Profile

In 2008, Element was contracted by Argyle Diamonds to take over the management and data reporting functions of the existing Hydrometric Network. The network of monitoring stations is comprised of three meteorological station, eight stream flow & water quality stations, ten groundwater stations, and three reservoir stations.

All real-time data from each of the 31 on-site data loggers is unloaded on a daily or weekly basis via Next G Modems, and reported via a password-secure webpage on www.elemenths.com.au. Data is reviewed weekly, with detailed quarterly reports provided to the Argyle Diamonds Environmental team for use with discussions with internal and external stakeholders (including Traditional Owner Groups).
Basic system is check are undertaken each day to ensure high levels of reliable data capture. Operation and maintenance visits are undertaken on an approximately 8-week basis, during which time in-situ water quality readings and sensor check calibrations are taken made.

Parameters measured at each Gauging Station include Water Level, Velocity, Turbidity, EC, and Temperature.
