API Management

Project: WPIOP Meteorological Monitoring Network
Client: Australian Premium Iron / Aquila Resources Ltd
Region: Pilbara, WA

Project Profile

In 2012 Element installed and commissioned a variety of meteorological monitoring stations across the West Pilbara Iron Ore Project (WPIOP).

In 2008, Element was contracted by the API to design, install and commission 3 stream discharge and water quality station, and one rainfall monitoring site at an mining exploration lease in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia.

In 2011, Element commissioned an additional ten real time groundwater monitoring stations to be used for analysis of groundwater dependant ecosystems and hydraulic drawdown in the vicinity of proposed mining influences.

Currently all data is manually unloaded in the field with validation and reporting undertaken at Element's Hydstra data management system.

Element undertakes all stages of site maintenance on an approximately quarterly basis, including discharge observations (gauging) where possible, cross-sectional surveys of the channels, rating table reviews, in-situ water quality checks, and sensor calibrations. Parameters measured include Water Level, Velocity, EC, and Water Temperature.
